How does this course start? How old do I need to be?

NH DMV allows student to begin a driver education program at 15.9 years of age. Students who have successfully completed the course may apply for their license at 16 years of age. Drive Safe students who have completed the Drive Safe, Inc. online inquiry forms will receive a reply email by the driver education secretary. She will then ask for additional information and answer any pending question you may have before reserving a seat. Those students who have rather reserve over the phone may leave a message on the automated answering machine including their name (first, last), DOB, telephone number, and preferred class start date. Most phone calls are returned by the weekend as we are full time educators during the week. Rarely, Drive Safe, Inc. is able to accommodate “drop in” students.

When are classes held?

Classes will be held after school from 6 to 8 pm, primarily on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. HOWEVER, there will be some exceptions depending on school vacations, observed holidays, weather, etc. All teachers strive to avoid planning classes during school vacations,so students can join their parents on vacations.

Where are the classes held?

At 193 Water St., Exeter, New Hampshire (Summer) We have been holding classes on the Squamscott river side. The parking lot is easy to find. You will be able to readily locate the Exeter-Portsmouth “Drive Safe” Driving School sign across from the P.E.A. Boat house. During the school year, classes are held at Exeter High School.

What do I need to bring the first night?

An open mind, enthusiasm, pen/pencil, deposit of $100.00 and a photocopy of your birth certificate! We accept cash and checks brought to class or our on line PayPal option.. Checks can be made payable to Drive Safe, Inc. A receipt will be provided each time a payment is made towards the balance.

As a student driver, will I be assigned to drive with another student?

This depends on the availability of driving times. When students are paired to drive together, the teachers strive to match students with others which will compliment driving styles and student personalities. Furthermore, at the beginning of the course, a student can make a request to be scheduled to drive with another classmate in the current Drive Safe, Inc program. The teacher will make attempts to align their schedules.

What curriculum guidelines will be addressed?

Drive Safe Inc. utilizes and supplements the NH Driver Education Risk Prevention Curriculum in all aspects of our program.

How do I secure a spot in an upcoming class?

The best way is to send in an application made out to Drive Safe Inc. Driving School. Students must pay a $100.00 deposit on the first class. Once a student attends the first class, there will be no refund. Receipts will be issued once any payment is received.

Is there anyway I can secure my spot without paying the full fee by the first class?

This would require a $100.00 deposit (which is non-refundable). A student must have paid the balance of $400.00 by the fourth week of class, or the student will not be able to attend this class. However, students are picked on a first come, first serve basis.

Your brochure describes each class between 10-17 students and the duration of the class as being 5-6 weeks. Why not a larger class?

The idea is to offer a quality program. It is with smaller classes that the teachers can better individualize to meet each student’s needs. Learning to drive safely is the most important skill a young person can learn. Statistics state this, as well a review of the daily newspapers. This takes time and patience in a well coordinated, sequential way. The instructor’s philosophy is to build a solid foundation of basic skills aligned with working as close as possible with parents.

How long is it between your scheduled courses throughout the year and can I sign up ahead of time?

Ideally, Drive Safe would like to work with a class of students every 5-6 weeks. Sign up early because our program is well established, servicing several generations of happy customers! Yes, one can sign up ahead of time for the next class or future classes thereby reserving a spot. To reserve a future class slot, the application and no deposit must be received by us. Our scheduled courses are planned due year in advance, so sign up early to reserve a position in the class. Keep in mind that NH State regulations and Drive Safe Inc. have stringent guidelines with regard to classroom absences …so choose your semester with that in mind.

When are classes held for the classroom portion?

Can you describe the automobiles Drive Safe Inc. Driving School provides?

We utilize a Honda Civic and Honda Accord. Some of the features include: Tilt steering, Rear-Seat Ducts, Power Winders and Door Locks, 6-way Power Driver’s Seat, Anti-Lock Breaking System, Air Conditioning, Integrated Control Panel, AM/FM Stereo/Single CD Player, and Electronic Speed Control. We also specialize in standard shifting in the WRX. These vehicles serve our increased demand and reduce our carbon footprint.

How is my driving time scheduled and where do I meet the teachers when I am scheduled?

Driving time is scheduled to meet individual preferences as much as possible. The teachers spend considerable time setting this up and provides an updated copy of schedules, should they change. The student normally meets the instructor at the Drive Safe Inc. parking lot, or school, or home when scheduled to drive. At the end of the student’s driving time, the student will drive home. When feasible, the instructor will pick up the student(s) at their home address and deliver them back home. Students having driver’s ed on road lessons, may drive during study halls, provided school policy, is followed.

Can a student living in New Hampshire take a Driver’s Education class in another state?

No, the student must complete all of their driving requirements in the state of New Hampshire.

Can I drive in my parent’s car with them while taking Driver’s Education?

Yes. You may begin to work on your skills with a NH licensed driver 25 years of age or older when you turn 15.5. Legal proof of age needs to be readily available. We will supply you with the required 40 hour practice sheet with someone other than a driver education instructor when you begin our program. This documentation is required as part of your application for a NH State license. As you can see, this is a partnership program.

Can New Hampshire Driver’s Education students drive in other states?

As each state has its own motor vehicle laws, but it depends on their rules. Parents are advised to call the state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles in order to find this out, the answer is usually a “No”.

How long does a New Hampshire Driver’s Education student have to wait to be scheduled for a test after he/she has met all the requirements?

Once completing the class, students are allowed to go to a test site conveniently located. Students will be given 1) 30 question, multiple choice written test( 20 questions will be on the manual, 4 incorrect questions are allowed, 10 questions will be on signs, 2 incorrect are allowed, 2)vision test, 3) road test. Both the road and written tests must be passed with 80% or better to acquire a license. The cost of this exam is $50.00.
